Beginning Sitting Class
The Zen Sitting of the
Academy of Zen and the Ways, evolved from Chozen-jis (a Rinzai
Zen Monastery) Zen training and is being made available through our
programs. The
activities are for the purpose of How to Sit and
what Sitting is in the context of everyday life.
Program
The primary
objective of this course is to have the participants gain a general
sense of the relationship between body and mind, breath and posture,
and what meditation training is all about.
Through the introduction of concepts and practice of
hara breathing, body awareness and the changing the mind
through the body, each student will experience physical changes,
experience increasing awareness (e.g., physical; mind shift in
perspectives/perceptions), and gain the technology (breath, posture,
concentration) to sustain the changes.
Of
what value is the training? We
believe that the value of the training is in its application to
our daily activities:
Content
- Basic Sitting and Centering
- Hara Development
- Breath
- Concentration
